Online bookstore sales leave classrooms virtually without textbooks
Students and faculty at El Camino College are facing shipping delays and unexpected costs, or are having to change how they teach classes after the ECC Bookstore stopped selling textbooks in person.
While the Bookstore continues to sell snacks, school supplies and merchandise, shelves that once carried textbooks are bare. Read more.
Active shooter drill shuts down parts of campus

Parts of El Camino College’s campus, including the old Arts Building, Lots J and K and sidewalks near the South Gym, Marsee Auditorium and Campus Theatre, were closed Thursday, Sept. 25, for an active shooter drill. Read more.
Trespassing and vehicle burglary reported to the El Camino College Police
Seven crimes have been reported to the El Camino College Police Department since Tuesday, Sept. 9, as reported in the last Police Beat. Read more.
SPORTS
No. 4 ranked Warriors men’s soccer falls to No. 14 San Bernardino Valley College
Ending with a final score of 0-2, the Sept. 26 match at the ECC Soccer Field resulted in the Warriors’ second loss this season.
This marks the first home loss of the season for the Warriors who were previously (4-0) while defending their home field. Read more.
Women’s flag football program to be offered at El Camino College
Women’s flag football will be a sports program available at El Camino College starting spring semester 2026, according to the college’s press release.
Other California community colleges that have or are starting a flag football program include Cypress, Golden West, Irvine Valley, Mira Costa, Norco, Saddleback, Santiago Canyon, Southwestern and Ventura. Read more.
Sports Milestone Spotlight
By Jaylen Morgan: After the Warriors’ 31-27 win against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 27, Warriors football coach Gifford Lindheim won his 55th game of his El Camino College coaching career. Lindheim’s record moves to third best of all time on the Warriors’ football coaching list, passing Norm Verry who coached from 1952-1960 and earned a record of 54-27-2. The Warriors’ next game will be Thursday, Oct. 9, on the road against No. 21 ranked San Diego Mesa (2-3) at 7 p.m.
By Jaylen Morgan: Warriors men’s soccer coach Michael Jacobson reached his 100th career win Tuesday, Sept. 23, after the game against No. 3 ranked LA Mission. The Warriors (5-2-4) are currently ranked No. 2 and their next game will be at home Tuesday, Oct. 7, against the Los Angeles City Cubs (3-3-4) at 1:30 p.m.

Hispanic Heritage Month events to feature Disney and Nickelodeon consultant, self-care workshop and more
Hispanic Heritage Month lasts from Monday, Sept. 15, to Wednesday, Oct. 15. Out of 11 events hosted by El Camino College in honor of Hispanic heritage, six are still upcoming. The college’s Schauerman Library and the affinity centers, including the Social Justice Center and others, are hosting the events. Read more.

Campus Viewpoints: After Hours Edition

For many El Camino College students, their school day doesn’t end at 5 p.m.
Hours after counseling offices, administrative buildings and on-site eateries close, classrooms remain open to accommodate those enrolled in night classes.
The Union spoke to more than 20 campus community members about their experiences taking night classes on campus and their thoughts on safety. Read more.

The top three responses included “Wearing cozy outfits,” which won 46% of the votes; “Cooler, crisp air and warm sunsets,” which won 31% of the votes; and “Jumping into the spooky season,” which won 15% of votes. Thanks for voting!

The spring/summer 2025 edition of Warrior Life magazine is available online and in print on newsstands around campus.
This 72-page issue of the magazine has features on El Camino College’s new chief of police, an alternative rock band, a fashion and content creator, a cosmetology student and much more. You'll also find personal stories that include working alongside a parent, bouts with asthma and trying a video game workout.
