New plagiarism software will help detect AI usage by students

El Camino College has agreed to work with a new plagiarism-checking software to replace the previous one and help combat the rise of AI-use in classrooms. The new vendor, PlagiarismCheck, will be used by El Camino under a three-year contract that cost the college $102,965. The contract will last from July 7, 2024 to June 30, 2027. Read more.
Woman threatens passengers, driver on bus near El Camino, riders say

A woman pushed and screamed at passengers and the driver on a bus that runs through Crenshaw Boulevard on Monday, April 29, riders said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department pulled up behind the bus flashing emergency signals at the Crenshaw and Redondo Beach Boulevard bus stop at approximately 1 p.m. where passengers flooded out. The woman, described as elderly, exited the bus at a previous stop before the sheriffs came to assist. Read more.
Theft, reckless driving cases reported across El Camino
Cases of theft, reckless driving and vandalism across the El Camino College campus were part of 15 crimes reported since the last Police Beat update on Wednesday, March 27. Read more.

Warriors baseball falls to Mt. SAC in season finale

The Warriors baseball team fell short 3-1 in its final regular season game against Mt. SAC at Warrior Field on Friday, April 26. The Warriors (21-19) wrap up their season fifth in the South Coast Conference and start the 3C2A Southern California Regionals on May 3 against Santa Ana College, who host the Warriors. Read more.
Warriors avenge season’s 2 losses to Long Beach with win to enter playoffs
The Warriors lost to Long Beach City College twice this season. On their third face-off on Thursday, April 25, the Warriors toppled the Vikings 3-1 in the Warriors’ last regular season game. The Warriors ended the season a strong 28-12 and will start their postseason hosting Moorpark College in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs on May 3. Read more.
Mt. SAC, Cerritos and Long Beach track and field teams sweep the competition in South Coast Conference Championships
El Camino College hosted the South Coast Conference Prelims on Tuesday, April 23, where the Mount SAC, Cerritos, and Long Beach teams dominated the competition. Despite formidable opponents, El Camino’s track and field warriors showcased standout performances from Anthony Taylor and Sequoia Gonzales, securing victories in the 110-meter hurdles and the 10,000-meter run. El Camino’s teams finished just shy of the podium in both men’s and women’s events. Read more.
Home for a home run: Former player takes over as coach for Warriors Baseball
Grant Palmer, a former player turned coach, has found his home once again at El Camino College. The first-year Warriors coach has a background in baseball both as a player and assistant coach. Palmer’s leadership is marked by a deep connection to the program. Assisted by experienced coaches Jerry McClanahan and Zach Kirby, Palmer aims not only for on-field success but also to guide his team toward championship success while nurturing their personal growth. Bringing skate parks back to life: LA County hosts skating competition at Alondra Park

The L.A. County Parks and Recreation Department hosted “Skate Jam” at Alondra Park on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Skaters from the community, ranging from youth to adults, participated in the competition in hopes of winning prizes to level up their skateboards.
The event was a collaboration with UnModern Industries, a shop that sells skateboards in the Los Angeles area.
