New Board member appointed to fill vacant seat

After being sworn into the position by Inglewood Mayor James Butts, Community Relations Manager Brett Roberts took his seat among the Board of Trustees during their May 15 meeting. Roberts is filling the Area 1 seat, previously held by Kenneth Brown, who died on March 23. Roberts will represent Inglewood and Ladera Heights for the remainder of the current term ending on Nov. 5, 2024. Read more.
Man flashes gun during road rage encounter

A man flashed a handgun during a road rage confrontation on Crenshaw Boulevard during the afternoon of May 17, police said. The man, described by police as Hispanic and in his early to mid-30s, was wearing a black cap and driving a small white SUV. Read more.
Music and journalism student earns Presidential Scholarship Award

After getting a letter from academic affairs in the mail, 20-year-old music major Anthony Lipari learned he was one of a few students at El Camino to win the $2,000 Presidential Scholarship award this year. To receive the award, students must be eligible to graduate, have at least a 3.7 grade point average and have completed 60 units by the end of the spring semester. Read more.
New plans to prioritize student mental health education, well-being set in motion

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ to be screened Friday, May 26

The Associated Students Organization is hosting a movie night at the Roadium Open Air Market in Redondo Beach on Friday, May 26. The movie being shown is “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which won seven academy awards at the 2023 Oscars. Doors will open at 6 p.m., while the movie is set to start at 7 p.m. Read more.

Muslim Student Association, college officials to address concerns over Eid prayer
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) sent a letter to the El Camino College administration on April 25 detailing their challenging journey in making the Eid al-Fitr prayer event happen. In response to the MSA’s letter, administration members met with the MSA on April 27 and will be meeting again on May 25. Read more.

Fight Night: Season one
El Camino College’s boxing club will be hosting a fight night fundraiser in collaboration with Sweet Science Boxing Gym in Hawthorne on Saturday, May, 20. Participants from El Camino will demonstrate abilities developed in training. The event will feature seven fights, with all proceeds benefiting the boxing club. Read more.
