Board of Trustees President Kenneth Alan Brown died unexpectedly on March 23, he was 54 years old. Born on Aug. 31, 1968, Brown grew up in the city of Carson. Brown held many titles throughout his career, but notably, his main passions in life were science and education. Read more.

Board of Trustees honor former president, approve timeline to fill vacant seat

The April 17 Board meeting commenced with a tribute to former Board of Trustees President Kenneth Brown, followed by unanimous approval of a timeline to fill the vacant Trustee Area 1. The Board is hosting a special board meeting to interview potential candidates and appoint a new trustee for the Area 1 seat on May 12. Read more.
Longtime El Camino badminton and soccer coach dies at 70

El Camino College badminton coach and former men and women’s soccer coach John Britton died on Tuesday, April 11 at the age of 70. Hailing from England, Britton was an avid soccer player growing up. He joined El Camino’s coaching staff for the soccer team in 1995 and has been coaching badminton since 1998. Read more.
Defendant indicted in the murder of El Camino student

On Nov. 10, 2022, a 23-member grand jury at Clara Shortridge Foltz Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles determined there was enough evidence to indict Weijia Peng for the murder of El Camino College student Juan Carlos Hernandez, 21. Read more.
Celebrating Ramadan: Muslim students to host Eid al-Fitr prayer on campus
To mark the end of Ramadan, the El Camino Muslim Student Association will host the Eid al-Fitr prayer on Friday, April 21 from 7 to 9 a.m. at Murdock Stadium. Over 3,500 attendees are expected to attend this year. Read more.
Black Student Success Week to showcase grand opening of new center
The Black Student Success Center will have its grand opening on Wednesday, April 26, as a part of Black Student Success Week, an annual event held throughout community colleges across California. Black Student Success Week will take place from April 24 - 28. Read more.
Tax deadline postponed to Oct. 16 for most Californians

Individuals and businesses in 51 out of 58 California counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura, have until Oct. 16, to file state and federal taxes. Read more.
New plan highlights increased support for student, employee parents
A new childcare center for students and employees could soon be established as part of an initiative that aims to improve student success and accessibility on campus. During a presentation at an Academic Senate meeting on Tuesday, April 18, Director of Institutional Research and Planning Viviana Unda said the plan to help attract students to El Camino was almost finalized. Amazon turns page on textbook rentals for students, discontinues program

Students are no longer able to rent textbooks through Amazon, one of the world’s largest online retailers, announced in a statement on April 1. Any outstanding rentals must be returned by the end of their rental period and the company is instead focusing on physical textbook and e-book sales. Read more.

Warriors golf team on par for conference finals after neutral match

Warriors sweep series against Cerritos College in offensive explosion

With the bats and the bullpen shining, the El Camino College Warriors won their third and final game of the series 17-5 against the Cerritos College Falcons, making it a series sweep. The Warriors later secured a victory over the Long Beach City Vikings on April 18. Read more.

El Camino College takes first places and personal bests at Mt. SAC Relays
Several El Camino College sprinters brought home medals and achieved individual personal bests at the annual Mt. SAC Relays on April 8 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, California. In heat three of the men’s 110-meter hurdles, freshman Anthony Taylor took second place and set a best personal at 14.54 seconds. Read more.
