Students prepare to jump to music at Choreography Showcase

Ballet, modern, contemporary, world, jazz and hip-hop will be showcased at the El Camino College dance department’s choreography showcase on June 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets are on sale for $10 and can be purchased on the El Camino College Center for the Arts website or at the ticketing office near Marsee Auditorium. Read more.
Quiet on set: Scene One Film Fest showcases student films

Feeling the Blues: Studio Jazz Band takes inspiration from the classics

Taking inspiration from jazz legends Patrick Williams, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis, the El Camino Studio Jazz Band captivated concert-goers on Monday, May 22. The 18-member band delivered some of jazz’s greatest hits, composed of two sets, to a small but uplifting crowd at Marsee Auditorium. Read more.
Whodunit murder-mystery play ‘Book of Days’ mesmerizes audiences
The mystery of a murdered factory owner in a traditional small American town enthralled the audience attending the first production of the “Book of Days” play. For fans of murder mysteries and crime dramas, the play showcases great storytelling with occasional bits of lighthearted and sometimes crass humor to lighten the mood. Read more.

Zero-cost textbooks, more financial aid part of college’s new enrollment strategy

In an effort to increase student enrollment, changes to federal financial aid and zero-cost textbooks are part of El Camino College’s new enrollment strategy for the next three years. As part of the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan, the college aims to increase enrollment numbers through 2025. Read more.
Former El Camino journalism student engaged to Jeff Bezos

Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos popped the question to a former El Camino College journalism student while on vacation together in Southern France. Lauren Sánchez, who was known as Wendy Sánchez while attending El Camino College, wrote for The Union, formally known as The Warwhoop, during the 1991 spring semester. Read more.
‘Celebrate your pride’ at El Camino’s Pride Week

The Gender Sexuality Alliance and Student Equity & Achievement clubs will host a week-long event starting Tuesday, May 30 to Saturday, June 3, in celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community at the Social Justice Center. Veterans Center to host Memorial Day dedication event
A Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony will be hosted by the Veterans Resource Center outside of the Student Services Building on Thursday, May 25. The ceremony will feature the dedication of a new Veteran’s Circle just outside of the Student Services Building, where the names of fallen service members will be read. Read more.
El Camino braces for less state funding; Planning committee moving fast to develop new budget

The amount of state funding El Camino College receives could decrease in the next few years due to the drop in full-time student enrollment. The provision period could end at the beginning of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, then state funding will be given to El Camino based on how many full-time equivalent students the college has. Read more.
USC campus tour offered by El Camino

El Camino College students will have an opportunity to tour the University of Southern California on Friday, May 26. To be eligible for the USC tour, a $5 refundable deposit is required and students must show proof they are enrolled at El Camino and taking at least one course. Read more.

COVID-19 testing center will no longer be on campus
On-campus COVID-19 testing will no longer be available at El Camino College starting June 12, testing site employees said. The COVID-19 testing services are currently free of charge and located at the Communications Building in Room 205. Read more.

The amount of aid sent to Ukraine displays the United States government’s priority of supporting foreigners rather than its citizens. In total, the U.S. appropriated $115 billion in emergency funding to support Ukraine since the war’s beginning. 95% of the funding goes to the Department of Defense and the State Department.
