Letter From The Editor
Print issues, SoFi and personal slumps
Another print week come and gone.
This Wednesday members of The Union staff had the opportunity to tour SoFi Stadium thanks to efforts from our advisors and NBC Universal Academy, (make sure to check out The Union’s social media for more on that). But as Wednesday’s are usually our print day our deadline had to move up.
Although there was added stress getting our paper ready 24 hours early, I feel like I can’t complain too much as the reason for the early submission was an amazing opportunity. But still, I’m starting to feel the pressure, I think a lot of us are.
This week’s print edition editorial deals with what some call the “midsemester slump.” The phrase refers to the feeling you get halfway through a semester when everything starts becoming too much. Whether its school work piling up, mental anxiety or a lack of help the “slump” usually refers to academic troubles.
But speaking anecdotally, lately it seems like almost everyone is in a bit of a slump. Beyond school issues theres a lot going out in the world and (at least within my social circles) the constant strife and problems can make people feel powerless.
As hokey as it may seem, in times of trouble, two pieces of advice always come to my mind. As we all go through our personal midsemester slumps, I share them here.
Fred Rogers said "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
Growing up my mother would say, “Si vas a llorar, pues llora. Pero no vivas en miedo, todo pasa.”
In English that means, “If you’re gonna cry, cry. But don’t live in fear, everything passes.”
