Letter From The Editor
Warrior Life Magazine
I love magazines.
Growing up I was exposed to a plethora of publications that spanned a wide spectrum of interest. Whether it was Reader's Digest, Disney Adventures, Fangoria, Wizard or MAD I would devour them and was one of those weirdos who would keep all their issues and re-read them regularly.
I credit my love and exposure to these publications in helping to foster my interest in writing.
Last week our sister publication, Warrior Life Magazine, finalized stories, photos and pages and sent out the digital file to the printer. The magazine is scheduled to come out later this semester and will feature a variety of stories including profiles, personal pieces and other El Camino centric topics.
Warrior Life has a deep history.
Originally created as a successor to the college’s official yearbook, the first issue came out in 1963 and was modeled on Life Magazine. The general interest magazine has been published by El Camino journalism students ever since.
This semester the publication was helmed by Editor-In-Chief Brittany Parris who, along with her team of staff writers, has worked hard all semester. Parris also played a role in making the decision to print an issue per semester rather than every academic year.
I leave you with a message from the Warrior Life EIC.
Delfino Camacho
Editor-In-Chief
Each year, I continue to be amazed at the talent of our reporters, photographers, illustrators, etc.
As my first semester as Editor-In-Chief of Warrior Life, I’m excited to share some of the stories coming out this fall by our small but mighty team.
Our cover story this semester is by Erica Lee and features Cat Care Club member Carl Turano, who has been helping feed and find homes for the feral cats on campus ever since he became a custodian for the college in 1999.
This issue also features a profile on the new El Camino College Board of Trustee Brett C.S. Roberts from former Union EIC Khoury Williams.
From heartfelt opinion stories to showcasing the top 5 graphic novels checked out in the library, this issue is a compilation of the campus community and the charm of El Camino.
I’m proud of our work and we here at Warrior Life can’t wait for you all to read it.
Brittany Parris
Editor-In-Chief, Warrior Life Magazine
