Board of Trustees approves $100,000 purchase in transportation service cards for students

The Board of Trustees approved a $100,000 purchase of Shell Gift Cards for the EOPS program during Monday’s Board meeting. Following the approval, 1,000 gas cards worth $100 will be given to students who struggle with transportation. Read more.
Academic Senate disagrees on changing Professional Development Day required hours

Two motions failed to pass during an Academic Senate meeting regarding a decision on a recommendation to the El Camino College Federation of Teachers regarding required hours for Professional Development Day. The Federation had tasked the Academic Senate to gather feedback on whether faculty want to change the required hours for Professional Development Day. The agenda item was tabled for the next Academic Senate meeting on Dec. 3. Read more.
Gear up for success: “Finals Madness” event to offer study support and resources
“Finals Madness,” an event held by the Associated Students Organization to help students prepare for finals is expected to cost $5,000. It is scheduled to run from Dec. 2 to Dec. 5, from 8 p.m. to midnight in the library. Food and energy drinks will be provided for students who show up with scantrons and blue books. Read more.

A sneak peak of the Fall Advance Dance Concert

El Camino’s Fall Advance Dance Concert was hosted on Nov. 16 and 17 to showcase a variety of dance styles, including hip-hop, contemporary and ballet. The concert featured choreography by faculty, students and one guest artist choreographer to showcase a variety of dances. Read more.

Charlene Brewer-Smith started as a mother, driven to perfect her daughter's hair. Before becoming a cosmetology professor and president of Academic Senate at El Camino College, she took night classes at ECC. April Ross, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in beach volleyball, has been hired at El Camino College to coach the women’s beach volleyball team. After Ross’ long career of both indoor and beach volleyball on the world stage, she begins a new journey at ECC after retirement. Read more.
