Students, faculty voice their support for Palestine after first anniversary of Israel-Hamas war

El Camino College students, faculty and people from outside the college came together to march and speak in support of Palestine on Tuesday, Oct. 8. It was the second on-campus protest regarding the Israel-Hamas war since May 21. Read more.
Woofs and wiggles: therapy dogs make their way to El Camino College

On Wednesday, Oct. 2 the Student Health Services hosted Positive Paws, an event for El Camino College destress and find comfort in the four-legged animals. Paws-to-Share, a non-profit organization brought the dogs to campus. Liliana Romero, a student organizer with Student Health Services said “The dogs are here for the students’ mental health, they’re a great way for them to destress.” Read more.
One year later: Oct. 7 anniversary evokes painful memories, strong sentiments among the campus community

One year has passed since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which claimed the lives of 1,200 people. The attack by Hamas and Israel’s response continues to evoke strong emotions. Sascha Recht, a Torrance native and American-Israeli who was interviewed by The Union last year now lives in Haifa, Israel. Her friend, Carmel Gat, was taken hostage by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attack. In late August, Carmel Gat was found dead inside a tunnel in Rafah, Gaza. For others, the conflict and bloodshed in Gaza is seen as a “genocide.” Read more.

Warriors football team hang on by a thread in National Northern League matchup with Renegades

In their second league clash of the season, the El Camino football team came out on top over longtime rival Bakersfield. A strong first half by the Warriors and a last nail-biting second half renewed the 67th meeting between the two teams. Read more.
Warriors women’s volleyball team falls to the Falcons in first conference clash of the season

In their first South Coast Conference battle with Cerritos, El Camino dropped their conference opener at home on Oct. 4. El Camino sophomore outside hitter Zariah Honeycutt recorded a career night despite the loss to the Falcons. Read more.

An Evening Of One Act Plays coming soon
From Oct. 11 to Oct. 13, El Camino College students will perform three student directed one-act plays in the Campus Theatre.
The plays include “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” written by Don Zolidis and directed by Dean Castro, “Switcheroo,” written by Mora V. Harris and directed by Bianca Ondatje and “Here Comes the Bride… And There Goes the Groom” written by Billy Wayne St. John and directed by Meyonni Varnado. Read more.

El Camino Needs to Make Online Counseling Simpler

Students who take courses online have to rely on the My ECC website, which many have stated is hard to navigate. Having simpler navigation on MyECC to help students find access to counselors and look for good classes would help students prosper. Read more.
