ECC ranks among the higher out-of-state transfer rates locally

El Camino College’s out-of-state transfer rate is, on average, about 15.5% higher than Cerritos, Long Beach, and Orange Coast College.

At least 500 ECC students transfer out of state each year, placing it in the middle tier among nearby community colleges, but behind Santa Monica. Read more here.

As student Candida Brevard approaches the El Camino College’s 2026 commencement ceremony, she finds herself contemplating whether to walk or not.

Her classmate chose to walk across the graduation stage, but 37-year-old women’s studies major and mother of a 15-year-old, Brevard, questioned whether earning her associates degree was deserving of a celebration. Read more here.

Living mindfully: Weekly meditation sessions ground El Camino community

At the start of each week, students and employees alike gather to lay on blue and violet mats that stretch over a patch of green turf.

Together, they’re focused on the present moment.

They want you: College community reacts to Selective Service automatic draft registration

After President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act on December 18, 2025, it authorized an automatic registration for the military that will begin in December 2026. Males between the ages of 18 and 25 are required to register, but this does not guarantee that all who register will be selected.

One of the procedures the Selective Service System will be in charge of is “Workforce Optimization”, which includes a twelve-month early headcount, field preparation and controlled hiring systems to ensure males who enlist are ready to be on the front lines. Watch video here.

Dance department builds community and experience

The El Camino College dance department is unlike other programs on campus.

The three full-time faculty in the department consist of Elizabeth Adamis, Johnathan Bryant and Daniel Berney, who collectively oversee choreography classes and teach various dance styles.

While most programs rely on individual study and testing, the dance classes rely on the structure of showing up physically for each other and the group choreography. Watch video here

Debuting designs embroider semesterly fashion show

From the first fashion show in 1982 to this spring semester, the fashion department continues to showcase young designers and brings the Framing Fashion show to El Camino College to help broaden their horizons.

This show was made possible due to the work of the Fashion Show Production class and the guidance of ECC fashion program coordinator Vera Ashley.

The show highlighted the work of aspiring designers and models as they took center stage and came pumping down the runway. Watch video here.

I Tossed My Cell Into the Ocean

I was born in the 80s and I can still remember the days when cell phones didn’t exist. It was a lot more romantic. People had mystery. Substantial effort was made if you wanted someone’s number or if you wanted to know who someone was.

Either you go up to that person and converse, or you find someone who knows them. Now everything’s accessible and what’s even worse is we are now trained to receive information at a high speed. An article by Kaiser Permanente explained how this creates techno-stress, the psychological stress caused by overexposure to technology. Read more here.

Student caught filming in women’s bathroom

By Alexandra Quintana

n El Camino student was caught recording another student in the women’s restroom on the third floor of the Math, Business, and Allied Health building on April 21.

The student who was recorded noticed a camera appear above the stall next to hers, yelled, and ran out of the bathroom seeking assistance. She then re-entered the restroom and came out holding the suspect by his right arm, according to the incident report. Read more here.

Students navigate a lack of health care

About 30% of young adults in America are uninsured.

Partly due to significant changes in Medicaid in 2023, when continuous enrollment ended, affecting millions, according to the National Library of Medicine.

The number of young adults without healthcare benefits and resources has significantly skyrocketed in recent years. Read more here.

Lack of student government participation affects student event

A student government event that offers evening study sessions, tutoring support, recreational activities, and free food is facing a potential setback to its late-night hours due to a shortage of Associated Student Organization (ASO) volunteers.

The event, Finals Madness, invites students to study for their upcoming finals during late hours in the tutoring services section of the Schauerman Library while free food and recreational activities are provided downstairs in the Distance Education Center. Read more here.

Top 5 murals in the South Bay: Follow the paint drops of local artist

Detailed and colorful murals, often of athletes and iconic figures, span throughout the greater Los Angeles area, and its creator is first-generation Mexican-American muralist Gustavo Zermeño Jr., born in Venice Beach.

Many of Zermeño’s days are filled with driving down intimate streets and visiting new towns in Los Angeles in search for the perfect walls to host his next work. Read more here.

Paws for wellness: therapy dogs bring comfort to campus

The El Camino College Center for Well-Being offers weekly workshops and activities to promote mental health awareness and self-care to students and staff. Through a partnership with the non-profit organization Paws-to-Share, therapy dogs visit campus twice a month for students and faculty to relax and unwind. They’re able to spend a few minutes petting the dogs and take a break from the pressure of daily life.Watch video here.

Talking Taboos: Tattoo culture on campus

Tattoos are seen as taboo, yet the times are changing. More often than not, tattoos are conversation starters and a mode of self expression, or, as El Camino College social science professor Martin Leyva would describe it: “a right of passage.”

To business and marketing major Alyssa Parker, 24, it’s about the care.

Parker is a student entrepreneur who started her own nail technician business. From her dining-room-turned-nail-spa, Parker polishes clients nails in a couple hours into eye-catching art.

Pride Center brings a snatched drag show performance

Past flowing bubbles and rainbow tinsel that framed the entrance of the Social Justice Center, the on-campus kickoff celebration for Pride Week brought drag and dance to the LGBTQIA+ student community Monday, May 18.

Student Success Coordinator in the Pride Center Kenneth Simkins said Monday’s event, called “Slay Your Lunch,” was the first drag show held at El Camino College. Read more here

Duckwalk down to the Pride Center for an Intro to Ballroom and Voguing

From spins and dips, to duckwalks and catwalks, the Pride Center presents an introduction class to voguing. Faculty member Julian Xiong takes you through an expressive journey of dance as you learn influential voguing terms. Whether you are new to the voguing world or a seasoned catwalk queen, the workshop provides an experience for the queer community and allies who are interested in learning about ballroom culture, a place for those alike to join together and have fun. El Camino College Pride Festival connects students with LGBTQIA+ resources

From free food to condoms, El Camino College’s Gender Sexuality Alliance Club hosted the Pride Festival to connect students with campus and community resources for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

The event took place on Thursday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Services Plaza and was one of six events scheduled during Pride Week, which ran May 17–22. Watch video here

The road starts here: Truck driver training program turns beginners into licensed professionals in 10 weeks

Parking Lot L at El Camino College was once lined by the cars of students and employees. Now, bright orange and white traffic cones barricade a space that has more life than ever.

The sun rises and it’s brisk. By 8 a.m., the lot is filled with 18-wheelers. Students pace alongside them, holding wooden pointers and reciting pre-trip inspections as instructors watch closely.

It’s a new beginning. For some, it’s their first time around trucks. For others, it’s a career that has followed them throughout their lives. Read story here.

“It’s surreal:” Community reacts to search on White House Correspondent’s Dinner shooter’s home

Hours after Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was arrested for allegedly firing a shot inside the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, FBI and police searched his family home in Torrance, California, Saturday, April 25.

Bachelor’s degree program in the works at El Camino College

More bachelor’s degrees (BA) may be offered in the future at El Camino College in various fields, with a new program in the works.

At the College Council on Monday, May 18, Vice President of Academic Affairs Carlos Lopez presented a draft of a BA degree recommendation application for council feedback.

“So, we are trying to create a formal process, with a formal timeline, an application, a rubric, and a committee that will review all of the applications and make a recommendation to the Academic Senate,” Lopez said. Read more here.

Club teaches members to create 3D printed models

Art class confidential: Inside a six-hour studio drawing session

The 3D printing club at El Camino College teaches students how to design models through their computer aid software SolidWorks to transform ideas into a reality.

The club hosts meetings weekly on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the basement of the Industry Technology Education Center Building Room 31. During the Thursday meetings they have a step by step demonstration session where club members design and print different models. Watch video here

Watch how students of Drawing Fundamentals II, an intermediate skills art class offered on Fridays, spend a typical six-hour and 20-minute session together. Led by full time fine arts instructor Joe Hardesty, they transform blank pieces of paper into stunning works of art as they train to work over long periods of time.

“It creates the circumstances or the kind of setting for a longer, more sustained kind of concentration, which I think is really good training for artists,” Hardesty said, adding that it can also help those who are looking to become designers, illustrators or animators. Watch video here

I started community college back in 2014 as a part-time student, unsure of what I wanted to do.

Eventually, I chose film, something I had loved since I was a kid. But the path forward didn’t get easier.

I was working one full-time and one part-time job just to pay rent.

Taking two or three classes a semester felt like inching toward a finish line that unfortunately felt never endless. Read more here.

Time is of the essence when pressure expands

Through an unreachable door that is near enough to see and feel, but not yet close enough to live in reality, makes me feel like I can never turn the knob.

Tick…tock…tick…tock, the sound I hear as time passes and the clock strikes at an unreasonable hour. The clock glaring at me from above, staring at me, convincing me that time is beginning to waste away.

Merriam-Webster showed that essence is defined as “the most fundamental nature of something.” Time is of the essence, but is essence made up of time? Read more here

It took the funeral home eight hours to retrieve the body.

For those eight agonizing hours Elizabeth Adamis sat in her living room with a police officer at the door and a blanket sprawled over the man who just an hour prior laughed on a Zoom call with his brother in Athens.

Running to danger: New trainee officers put community's needs above their own

It was a hot day in East Los Angeles when Officer Pablo Garcia, 44, was on patrol for the Montebello Unified School District Police Department. Two women called out for his help. A four-year-old infant was locked inside the scorching Chevrolet Silverado.

The crying mom tried breaking the window herself. Neighbors surrounded the car to see what was going on.

She told Garcia to do what he had to do, so he broke the car window with his baton, and rescued the child from inside.

Warriors men’s volleyball swept by Vikings in final match of the season

The El Camino College men’s volleyball team wrapped up its season Friday, April 10, with a 3-0 home loss to Long Beach City College, closing out the year with a mix of progress and frustration.

The Warriors were swept in straight sets: 25-20, 25-22, and 25-16. Although the second set was close, errors at key moments hindered the team.

ASO candidates begin months-long campaign for 2026-2027 term

Beginning Tuesday, March 24, candidates for the Associated Students Organization will be campaigning for seats for the 2026-27 school year. These positions include seats in the executive cabinet and the student senate.

The campaign period will run until Sunday, April 26, which is when voting will commence until Friday, May 1. Read more.

New officers sworn in to serve campus community

Two new police officers were sworn in on Thursday, April 2, during a ceremony held in the Kenneth A. Brown Board Room, located inside the Administration building.

The ceremony marked the start of their duties on campus, as family, colleagues, and administrators gathered to welcome them to the department. Read more.

One hundred backpacks fill Student Services Plaza for Suicide Prevention and Well-Being Fair

One hundred backpacks were set up at the Student Services Plaza Wednesday, April 1, but the display was no joke.

They were part of an exhibit called “Send Silence Packing,” which honors those who lost their lives to suicide by sharing their stories of hope and loss from their family and friends.

The Saving Lives, Supporting Minds: A Suicide Prevention and Well-Being Fair took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Read more.

Warriors softball blows LA Harbor out of the water

The Los Angeles Harbor College Seahawks may have gotten the first run, but the El Camino College Warriors softball team quickly drowned them out.

The Warriors defeated the Seahawks 10-2 during a home game Tuesday, April 7.

Once infielder Emma Padilla scored after teammate Kate Pedroza hit the ball through the infield, the second inning saw the Warriors unleash a deluge of runs that washed out the Seahawks. Read more.

Anti-gun software now integrated in security cameras

El Camino College Chief of Police Matthew Vander Horck was in Oxnard on Saturday, March 7 when he got a notification on his phone: “Priority alert gun threat was verified at [location].”

Studio art major Jeremy Engel, 19, ran his pencil along the canvas, outlined key anatomy points and shaded in the ribcage of the model during professor Randall Bloomberg’s Life Drawing class at El Camino College.

Engel taught himself to draw at home through YouTube videos.

Engel has dedicated years learning to master these techniques. However, artificial intelligence picked it up in a matter of seconds. Read more.

Public disturbance at Cafe Camino

Petitioners attempt to recruit students

After verbal threats and slurs were spoken to people waiting in line at Cafe Camino at El Camino College Thursday, March 19, a student is being issued an order to stay off campus for the next 10 days.

If the student is seen on campus before the 10 days are up, they will be arrested, according to officer Ryan Brown. Read more.

Petitioners, seen frequently on campus since the first day of the spring semester on Monday, Feb. 16, have been attempting to recruit students for petition gigs and gather signatures for a multitude of ballot measures.

When asked about initiatives, these individuals, mostly independent contractors, have revealed that money is the primary motivating factor in collecting signatures. Read more.

Widower continues his late wife’s legacy

For the first time since 2016, El Camino College Warriors softball team racked up a five-game losing streak.

Warriors played against the Long Beach College Vikings in a home game at the ECC softball field on Tuesday, March 24.

Review: “The Amazing Digital Circus” character grows unhinged in newest episode

Dr. Donald Hata returns yearly to honor his late wife, and former Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Nadine Hata, at the Cherry Blossom Festival by sharing their stories and remembering her legacy.

In Nadine’s long-standing culture at ECC, she and her husband arranged for the donation of the five cherry blossom trees, with the first Cherry Blossom Festival taking place in 2000. Five years later, Nadine passed away after a long fight against breast cancer. What she left behind was her legacy and her supportive husband. Read more.

Dramedy and psychological horror animated web series “The Amazing Digital Circus” releases the long-awaited episode eight, titled “hjsakldfhl”, which puts the viewer front-row center of a villainous nervous breakdown.

The episode begins following the events that transpire in episode seven where one of the main characters Pomni, voiced by Lizzie Freeman, and the rest of the gang draw the conclusion that escape from a virtual world may never come. Read more.

E-bike thefts increase on campus

Two El Camino students had their e-bikes stolen Thursday, March 5 and Monday, March 9, between 6 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. near the Natural Sciences Building, according to an incident report from campus police.

A Timely Warning was issued by El Camino College Police Department on Tuesday, March 10 following the thefts. Read more

College Council discusses deadline for accessible-friendly online services

When computer science major Gisela Maldonado, 20, logged into the MyECC portal to buy her parking pass for the spring semester, she was hit with an unexpected sticker shock.

“There was no notice; it was just when I logged onto the portal to get my parking permit that I saw that it went from $20 to $35,” Maldonado said. “I was a little surprised to see the price change.”

El Camino College students returning for spring classes will now have to pay $35 for a parking permit. This was the original price before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Read more.

New online updated tools are rolling out at El Camino College to create a more accessible platform for disabled individuals.

Staff and faculty at El Camino College have until Sunday, April 26 to ensure that their online content is up to date with Title II final rule of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Read more.

Thefts, lewd conduct, and hit-and-runs reported to El Camino College Police Department

Lack of student privacy was brought up as a concern regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools in academic coursework at the Academic Senate on Tuesday, March 3.

Vice President of Academic Technology Stephanie Burnham created a resolution exploring the implementation of artificial intelligence tools in grading coursework to address common concerns with AI usage raised by faculty. Read more

Barbershop Talks: Cut the small talk

The Student Equity and Achievement (SEA) Center was buzzing with conversation and razors at the first Barbershop Talks event of the semester on Wednesday, Feb. 25, where the Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN) provided five barbers to give out free haircuts.

In-N-Out to provide burgers at Club Rush

Club Rush attendees can indulge in sweet treats and snacks featured on clubs’ tables, and this semester, courtesy of Fund 71, the Associated Student Body arranged for an In-N-Out truck to provide over 350 burgers to students, prospective students, and club members attending.

This is the first Club Rush of the spring 2026 semester. It starts Monday, March 2, and goes through Wednesday, March 4, at the Student Services Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where students have the opportunity to engage and sign up with the clubs at El Camino College. Read more

Artificial intelligence catches over 4,000 fraudulent student applications at El Camino College

More than 4,000 spring 2026 applications were identified as fraudulent, according to a presentation from Acting Dean of Enrollment Services Dr. Kristina Martinez at the Feb. 18 Board of Trustees meeting.

Since it was first introduced for the spring 2025 semester, artificial intelligence software LightLeap AI has improved the accuracy of El Camino College’s enrollment numbers due to its success in identifying fraudulent applications and enrollments, according to Martinez. Read more

Warriors’ baseball cruise past Vikings for fifth straight win

At the top of the ninth, and last inning, Long Beach City College Vikings utility player Aaron Mingo was up to bat.

“Have some fun,” his teammate, outfielder Carson Slager, shouted to Mingo on what felt like a game already over.

With a swing and a miss, the game ended 5-0 as the El Camino College Warriors roared out their cheers of victory to pitcher Gavin Sanchez.

And with that, the Warriors extended their winning streak to five games in a row after their at-home face off against the Vikings on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Read more.

El Camino students manifest their goals with a vision board workshop

With magazine cut outs and art supplies, students got the opportunity to piece together their goals in collages from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ECC Commons on Tuesday, February. 24, as part of a vision board workshop hosted by the Center for Well-Being.

Since it first opened during the fall 2025 semester as an extension of the Student Health Services, the Center for Well-Being staff have made efforts to provide relaxing and recharging activities for students and employees. Read more.

Drug use on campus goes unreported by community

Associated Student Organization member Eduardo Moreno said there isn’t a substance abuse issue at El Camino College, however various liquor and drug violation arrests on campus have been reported numerous times since 2022, according to ECC’s Annual Security Report.

Illicit drugs and alcoholic beverages are not allowed on campus, according to federal law and campus policies. However, on-campus drug, liquor and weapon violations happen a couple times a year at ECC. Read more.

Sexual offenses increase across higher education in California

Standing near Cafe Camino in the afternoon, Rosalina Morfin, 18, and her friend were talking to a group of students when they noticed a man hovering nearby.

“He was kind of just swaying back and forth…he was asking our names, we said fake names I’m pretty sure,… ?” she said.

They ended up saying strained goodbyes, and left.

However, the man proceeded to follow them as they walked nervously down the long corridor north of the Cafe, toward the Schauerman Library.

According to interviews with several students on campus conducted by The Union, these types of cases are becoming all too common. Read more.

El Camino Board of Trustees taking applications for vacant Area Five seat

Torrance and Redondo Beach residents can now apply to become a member of the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees.

El Camino College is looking to appoint a provisional board member to represent Area Five following trustee Cliff Numark’s resignation Tuesday, Nov. 11. Read more.

Important campus calendar dates

The last day to return books at the El Camino College Schauerman Library is Friday, Dec. 12. Students must present a receipt for all exchanges or returns.
The last day of tutoring is Dec. 10. Tutors are located in the Tutoring Center on the second floor of the library.
All fall semester classes end Saturday, Dec. 13. Campus is closed from Dec. 24 to Dec. 31. Winter classes begin Jan. 5, 2026.

13-year-old aspiring sports journalist from Lancaster covers El Camino College football games

Crouching on one knee in the back of the end zone on Featherstone Field, gripping his black GoPro, Wesley Turner is determined to capture all the action of the El Camino Warriors football team — no matter where they play.

Along the sideline, he squeezes between players and staff to get every angle he can for his video. When the Warriors score a touchdown, he darts toward them, leaps into the air and high-fives the team, a huge smile taking over his face.

Wesley isn’t a freelancer for any publications. He isn’t part of The Union, or a local TV station, nor an employee at the ECC athletics department. Read more.

Women’s volleyball player has a breakout season at El Camino College

In her first season at El Camino College, middle blocker Amiekal Looney has quickly become one of the most dominant players in the South Coast Conference.

Leading the Warriors women’s volleyball team with 261 total kills and a 3.11 kills-per-set average, Looney has already earned All-SCC First Team honors. Read more.

Warriors women’s basketball team walks the plank against the Ventura Pirates

The Ventura College women’s basketball Pirates set sail early, rolling off with their fifth win of the season in a 67-43 victory over the El Camino College Warriors on Dec. 3 at the ECC Gym Complex.

Both teams entered the matchup with wins against the College of the Canyons, ECC being (1-7) on the season and Ventura at (4-3).

Pirates coach Cynthia Hernandez, in her second year, said the main focus going into tonight’s game was simple: defense. Read more.

How dog-sitting taught me boundaries

Bookstore and El Cappuccino to remain closed until further notice for air quality cleaning

The Bookstore, El Cappuccino and other spaces in the Bookstore Building will remain closed into December for air quality cleaning, over a month after two fires broke out in October.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, an arson attack took place on the outside of the loading dock outside the Bookstore in addition to the Chemistry Building hours later. Read more.

Parking enforcement increases in El Camino’s staff parking lots

Officers and cadets at the El Camino College Police Department are now ticketing vehicles that do not have valid staff permits registered with the college’s new system.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 17, the ECC Police Department increased patrols in the staff parking lots, including Lots J and K, in response to rising complaints of students taking employee spaces. Read more.

Student attacked on Crenshaw Boulevard in alleged gang incident

Three individuals assaulted an El Camino College student on Crenshaw Boulevard near GiGi’s Pizza on Tuesday, Nov. 18 around 11:30 a.m., according to the ECC Police Department.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media suggest the attack may be allegedly gang-related and claim the victim is an internet provocateur. Read more.

On the set of “Jane the Virgin”, Dr. Bennett, played by El Camino College physics professor Paul Haitkin, told Rogelio De La Vega and Xiomara Villanueva, played by Jaime Camil and Andrea Navedo, that he’s done vasectomies for many celebrities.

Smoking in the restrooms is not so hot for students needing to use the facilities

Restrooms in El Camino College’s Schauerman Library’s East Basement have been closed for more than a month due to student smoking.

While this is a preventive measure to deter students from doing so, it hurts student accessibility, especially for individuals who have disability accommodations as the only restroom available is up the flight of stairs and across the lobby. Read more.

Project linking Redondo Beach to Torrance by light rail train divides community

Residents and community groups are split over Los Angeles Metro’s proposed South Bay project, which agency officials said will extend light rail train service from the Redondo Beach Station to the new Torrance Transit Center.

“This is an important project for the South Bay, but also for the region in connecting people across Los Angeles to schools including El Camino [College]… Students would be able to easily come from various parts of the region,” Georgia Sheridan, Metro senior director of mobility corridors, said. El Camino board of trustees formalize plan to fill vacant board position

El Camino Community College District’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved the process of a provisional appointment for Trustee Clifford Numark’s seat during his last session Monday, Nov. 10.

A provisional appointment is a temporary process to fill a vacant seat, which the appointee serves until the next required election. Read more.

El Camino to see new requirements for bachelor’s degree and potential new program

Kinky sex, K-dramas, and sports betting were some of the topics spoken about by past and present El Camino College forensics team members at an event Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Marsee Auditorium.

Over 350 students attended the Speaker’s Forum, which is held at least once every semester and showcases speeches, an enactment of a written work and a debate by students involved in forensics, which is competitive speaking. Read more.

While many football players come straight from high school on to the college football field, El Camino Warriors running back Azeon Nelson came from the military to chase his dreams as a football player.

Nelson was born in Kennett, Missouri. One of the oldest of 10 siblings and raised by his aunt Dianne Jones. He played many sports growing up including baseball, basketball and football. But football was the sport that never left his heart. Read more.

El Camino’s Warrior Pantry supports visitors as federal food assistance stops

El Camino College’s food pantry has been serving more community members and students with food as federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program lapsed this month due to the government shutdown, college staff said.

At least 100 community members and between 150 to 200 students have been visiting the Warrior Pantry recently, which offers groceries, personal care items and emergency supplies to all students. Read more.

El Camino Bookstore and El Cappuccino close for air quality cleaning

The El Camino College Bookstore and El Cappuccino Cafe will be closed for at least the next two weeks, until Monday, Nov. 24, due to air quality reevaluation and cleaning efforts.

The closure is due to the arson attack that occurred on Sunday, Oct. 5, when the loading dock was burned, leaving a cardboard compactor damaged. Read more.

El Camino community feels impact of immigrant enforcement concerns

Immigrant and undocumented El Camino College students have felt less safe on campus amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities occurring in Los Angeles since June, college staff said.

A Sept. 8 Supreme Court preliminary ruling in the case Noem v. Perdomo has allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to conduct stops and questioning based on a person’s race, language and occupation. Read more.

Three brothers share an unbreakable bond playing for the Warriors men’s soccer team

Competing in a team with amazing teammates is an honor within its own right. Being able to share the field with a sibling could arguably be considered an even greater honor.

The Warriors men’s soccer team has a special case, however, as three brothers — Jaden Hancock, 21, and his younger identical twin brothers Owen Hancock, 18, and Gavin Hancock, 18 — juggle being on the field together. Read more.

Track and field coach to lead new women’s flag football program at El Camino

John Hall, who has coached track and field at ECC since 2013, was selected in October to lead El Camino College’s new women’s flag football program.

Hall is coaching the collegiate sport for the first time and is recruiting students to join the team, which will begin in spring 2026 and use uniforms, play other colleges and travel. Read more.

Chemistry Building evacuated after El Camino staff exposed to chemicals

Two El Camino College lab technicians were exposed to chemicals, sending one to the hospital, on the first day of the Chemistry Building’s reopening after the Oct. 5 arson attacks.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a chemical exposure at the southside of the Chemistry Building at around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4. Read more.

Judge refuses to reduce bail set at $300,000 in El Camino arsonist case

Joshua Anthony Chavez, the suspect in the Oct. 5 arson attacks at the El Camino College Bookstore and Chemistry Building, made his second court appearance Thursday, Oct. 30.

Appearing in a blue Los Angeles County prison jumpsuit, Chavez sat next to his attorney Harry Khassakhian during the hearing.

Khassakhian attempted to get Chavez’s $300,000 bail reduced on the grounds that Chavez had lost his job since the arrest and his partner is pregnant. Read more.

South Bay Galleria mall to close, become new retail space with apartments

After 40 years in the South Bay, the South Bay Galleria mall will be closing for redevelopment.

New owner Kennedy Wilson is demolishing part of the mall, which sits on 30 acres of land, to make way for a mixed-use property with residential units. Read more.

I Heart the Arts: Student organization seeks to save arts programs at El Camino

I Heart the Arts is a new campaign that brings people together to save arts programs at El Camino College as it makes cuts to the performing and creative arts programs.

Warriors football defeats Riverside City College for the first time in 16 years

After trailing 21 points, the El Camino College Warriors football team kept resilient in their last home game of the season on sophomore night.

Warriors men’s basketball team spooks Santa Barbara Vaqueros in home opener

Following an early lead set up by Warriors guard Rocco Gaffoglio, the ball virtually became a pumpkin in his team’s hands as they fumbled against the opposing score Halloween afternoon.

With only 24 seconds left in the match, Gaffoglio passed the ball straight to guard Kai Johnson, who assisted forward Justin Cricri on a game-winning layup that pushed the score to 66-65. Read more.

Warriors women’s volleyball soars past Cerritos College Falcons to victory

It was a race to the top of the South Coast Conference ranks for the El Camino College Warrior women’s volleyball team as they faced off against the Cerritos College Falcons.

In a tense, two-hour-long standoff, the Warriors soared past the Falcons to win three out of four sets during the Wednesday, Oct. 29, conference home game at the ECC Gym Complex. Read more.

Wags and smiles to visit El Camino, bringing an opportunity to de-stress

Cute faces and wagging tails will overtake El Camino College as Student Health Services will be hosting a Paws and Relax event.

Students will have the opportunity to play and interact with therapy dogs on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center for Well-Being. Read more.

‘The Laramie Project’ play to debut this month at Campus Theatre

El Camino College’s fall production of “The Laramie Project” will run at the Campus Theatre from Friday, Nov. 14 to Sunday, Nov. 23.

Based on true events, the play explores the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old gay college student at the University of Wyoming. Read more.
